A Quick Trip to Cape Breton

We took a very short trip to Cape Breton to celebrate my grandmother's 90th birthday, on the day. It was a small outdoor barbeque and cake since I definitely don't want to be the one to give her covid and die. My parents took her to my cousins for a bigger indoor do because covid is over and even if it isn't, its not that big of a deal.

While we were there we walked around Baddeck, checked out the Mabel's gardens outside the Alexander Graham Bell Historic Site and had a mostly relaxing time.

I also was able to shoot the first milky way picture that I didn't immediately hate.

On the drive home to Halifax we stopped in Whycocomagh where Ralph's Dairy used to be. This is the place that I worked when I was in high school for Cathy. She was a great boss. Tragically she and her husband died in a car collision way too soon and the store was closed shortly after. There is a nice memorial garden and plaque to remember their mark on the community.

The plaque reads:
This memorial garden has been dedicated by the community in the loving memory of Cathy and Sheldon MacInnis.
Those that touch our lives stay in our hearts forever!!

There was a trail off the park from there, but we didn't go far. It was definitely a trail built for ATVs and not great for walking, or at least there wasn't anything of note in the first few hundred meters, so we continued home.
I think next time that we are in the area we will stop by the Skye river Trail instead.
