Weekend Update

The weather this weekend was not amazing, the Debby leftovers left the day wet and gusty so we stuck close to home. Nothing interesting, a couple loads of laundry and tidying up to get ready to get back to work tomorrow.

As I have been updating or down-dating, the theme/style for the site, and with some links/pointers from fediverse friends, xahteiwi and chrisod, I started to clean up muy templates and creating "special" templates for recipes, reading list and links. More are likely to come. I spent a lot more time on cleaning up the recipe one so I don't need to do as much ..raw:: html work. I'm doing it with lists now and its "most" of the way now. You can see an example of it here - Cape Breton Oatcakes.

Today, Sunday however, the weather broke and we got outside for a little bit and enjoyed some of the nice weather down at Point Pleasant Park.

We also did some baking, and BBQ grilling to end the day.

Walk in the park

We took a walk around the park, but I only had my 35mm lens with me. I'm experimenting to see if I only have this lens on me, something that's similar to the Fujifilm X100 series, would I enjoy it. The Canon R6 is a little big, but the lens that I use the most is the 100-400mm. It does decent macro and has reach to get some nice shots of urban animals as we walk around.

This is the first walk, with just the 35mm and finding shots is going to come.

The 35mm is still good for macro, but it means that I have to get a lot closer than I would with my 100mm macro lens, or the 100-400mm.

There are enough squirrels and small birds that these berries are NOT going to rot on the ground.

Speaking of squirrels. What's with people feeding the animals in the fucking park. Today I actually had someone come up to me to ask if we wanted their peanuts to feed the squirrels. I had two small kids, and they were mid-20s to mid-30s (I can't tell how old people are). That's not ok, but its really not the time or place to mention that at the time.

There was another guy with two bags on he belt and an empty salad dressing bottle around his neck, that was actively (and professionally) feeding squirrels and probably bird too if he came across them.

The kiddos had fun hanging out around the water, tossing rocks, and seeing how close they can get without getting splashed.

However, it was pretty warm, so we were only wandering around 45min or so.

Weekend Baking

Because I didn't want to go to Costco this week, and the last couple times that we got bread from store they weren't that great. So, I made my own.

I made a batch of english muffins, and used the 3" cutter that they recommended but I think I will go 2" or 2.5" next time, I have a perfect old soup can. I also made a batch of bread, but as I was doing other things at the same time, I think I over scalded the milk and added a bit too much flour. They aren't pretty loaves, but I'm hoping they will be fine for toast.

Weekend BBQ

Earlier this week cut up a pork roast and started it marinating. Today it was ready for skewers.

Next week

I'm back at my desk next week. I'm not looking forward to the list of tasks that I have to start digging into. The start of the re-design here has also given me the idea that I should make my work site as simple as this place. I may even abandon the wordpress site that I bought in January and haven't done anything with and do it as a variation of this theme too. I just need to figure out how to do some payment processes for the courses.
