Another morning picture

This is another quick handheld picture with my Canon 60D.

If I look closely there is always something to take a picture of.

Flowers in the morning

So much reading

Recently I decided I wanted to read more. Read both fun books and learning books.

I’m a start and stop type reader, I will read a dozen books and then put my reader down for a year. So my goal starting now is to read consistently, even if it’s only 15min.

Forming Habits

One of the best books I read in 2019 was Atomic Habits by James Clear. In fact I read it twice. a critical theme in the book about habit formation is to keep it small at the beginning.

As small as possible.

So for that I started a couple months ago by forcing myself not to read longer than 15min or a single chapter. That was my goal, that every day.

When I noticed that my reader was with me as much as my phone I changed the goal to be at least 15min or a chapter a day.

Making progress

Since then I’ve read a bunch of books and I’m going to start posting about them. Something like reviews is post to Good Reads, but not owned by amazon.

I’ve been reading a lot of the St Mary’s Chronicles, in fact I’m almost caught up. I’m as hooked as I was with the Dresden or Laundry Files series. It’s an excellent series, while a bit too real at times when I’m looking for a fun relaxing read.

Jodie Taylor is an excellent author and the characters she’s developed are very real.

So, if your interested all these book related posts will be here, and they will be tagged with the year and series to make things somewhat sortable.

Summer is coming in fast

The trees are full and the rhododendrons are in bloom, summer is here.

Pandemic wine is bottled

It’s nothing special, but it’s nice for a home brew. It was actually ready to bottle a couple weeks ago, but we were a little busy to get to it.

Hopefully those extra days clearing will reduce the aging a bit so we can start drinking it on the patio.

Not all baking works out – cookies

They are flat

Not all baking works out all the time. This weekend my two cookie projects didn’t work out at all. The second recipe is pictured above.

I’m not sure what I did wrong, but it may have been beaten too much or the pan was in the wrong place in the oven.

It was my first time trying this recipe in many moons.

These are recipes from a recipe book my primary teach put together. I tweeted about it a couple weeks ago.

Spring is here along with BBQ

A couple weeks ago we had a pork shoulder, and rather than roasting it in the @KamadoJeff like we would normally, we did it in the oven.

Rib Steaks on a charcoal grill

It was delicious, and there was the added benefit of the pork fat drippings that we saved for cooking.

However, this weekend I grilled steaks and they were amazing.

I know, grilling is not “BBQ”, but it is close enough to kick off the BBQ season. It’s at least in the same family.

I will post my BBQ progress on @kamadojeff and will come up with a cool hashtag to share. For now you can check out another Jeff’s hashtag or just follow my @kamadojeff account

Testing if Steempress is working

just ignore this if you are reading it on the blog.

If you are reading it on it went there.

If you are reading this on that is where I expect you to read it.

Distancing Supper – Pork Shoulder

Over the last week we have been eating great. Batch cooking some days, and scratch cooking others.

Yesterday we had no idea what we were going to have and that turned into this. Roasted pork shoulder from the freezer, corn fried in pork fat, onions, garlic powder and some herbs, canned black beans and a little bit of feta.

It was as delicious as it looks.
